SIU TAI

Interesting. This whole hanging-out-in-a-hawker is interesting. And amusing, too. And funny. This new experience is amusingly interesting fun. Does it make any sense? Whatever. *smiles*

Like now, a lady in her 60’s came to my table to get my order. I told her I want a light coffee, decaf if they have, with cream. And she said, “What lah. You want coffee?” I replied, “Yes. Light coffee with cream.” She said, “I don’t know what you want.” Waaaah! I just smiled and said, “Never mind. I’ll call my husband and ask for the name of the coffee.” Then the lady left.

“SIU TAI. Not strong with cream and not too sweet,” came Bee’s text.
Another lady came to take my order, and I said sue tai. Her brows met and she asked me what I want. I showed Bee’s text to her, but I don’t think she can read without her glasses, so I told her what I want for my coffee. And I added siu tai. This time I pronounced it as SYU TAI.

Months from now, I’ll learn the hawker lingo and ordering will no longer be a problem. I’ll try KOPI-O next time.
